Ukrainian Ambassador to EU Stresses Strong Military as Key to Security

Brussels – Ukraine’s ambassador to the European Union, Vsevolod Chentsov, has emphasized that the country’s military strength remains the most reliable guarantee of national and regional security. Speaking to European officials, Chentsov underlined the need for continued growth and modernization of Ukraine’s armed forces amid the ongoing war with Russia.

“The best security guarantee is a strong Ukrainian army,” Chentsov stated, pointing to the pivotal role Ukraine plays not only in defending its own sovereignty but also in maintaining European stability.

Chentsov noted that Ukraine’s army has evolved significantly since the Russian invasion began in 2022, transforming into one of the most battle-hardened forces in Europe. “Ukraine’s defense is Europe’s defense,” he added, highlighting that a strong Ukrainian army acts as a barrier preventing the spread of Russian aggression beyond Ukraine’s borders.

Appeal for European Backing

The ambassador’s remarks come as Kyiv continues to press Western allies for advanced weapons, financial assistance, and long-term security commitments. While Ukraine has received billions in aid from the EU and the United States, Chentsov argued that sustained support is necessary to ensure both Ukraine’s survival and Europe’s collective security architecture.

He also stressed that rebuilding Ukraine’s defense industries and securing long-term investment in military technology would benefit not only Kyiv but the entire European continent.

Chentsov’s statement arrives at a time of growing uncertainty about Western unity. While many European nations have pledged continued assistance, political debates in the U.S. and divisions within the EU have raised questions about the sustainability of aid.

Still, the ambassador maintained that Ukraine’s military success is a shared interest. “Only a strong Ukraine can guarantee peace and security in Europe,” he said.
