Three people, including two teenagers, were shot and injured early Saturday in the North Lawndale neighborhood on Chicago’s Southwest Side. Police said the shooting happened around 1:30 a.m. in the 2100 block of South Harding Avenue following an argument outside a gathering.
According to investigators, an argument broke out between one of the victims and a man who later opened fire before fleeing the scene. The gunman’s identity remains unknown, and no arrests have been made as of Saturday afternoon.
Police said the victims include a 28-year-old man and two 19-year-old men, all of whom suffered gunshot wounds to their lower legs. The 28-year-old was hit in the right calf, while the teenagers were struck in the right calf and right shin.
Emergency responders took all three victims to Mount Sinai Hospital, where they were reported to be in good condition. Authorities said none of the injuries appeared life-threatening.
The Chicago Police Department confirmed that detectives are investigating the shooting and reviewing nearby surveillance footage to identify the suspect. Officers have also been canvassing the neighborhood for witnesses who may have seen the shooter or the vehicle used in his escape.
Police have not yet determined a motive beyond the initial altercation, though the shooting is being treated as an isolated incident.
The North Lawndale area has struggled with repeated episodes of gun violence in recent years, often involving young adults. Residents have called for increased patrols and better community engagement to reduce shootings in the neighborhood.
City officials and community leaders continue to emphasize the need for early intervention programs, job opportunities, and mental health outreach as part of efforts to address recurring violence in the area.
Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact the Chicago police or submit an anonymous tip through CPD’s online portal.
