The U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has reported a dramatic rise in death threats against Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) personnel, increasing by more than 8,000% in recent months. The surge coincides with the agency’s efforts to enforce President Donald Trump’s deportation directives, which aim to remove undocumented immigrants with pending or denied cases.

A DHS spokesperson confirmed that the agency has “enhanced officer safety measures” and is cooperating with federal law enforcement to investigate threats made online and in person.

Officials say the threats have largely originated from social media platforms and encrypted messaging services, targeting ICE agents, their families, and local field offices. The agency has not disclosed specific details for security reasons, but noted that multiple individuals have been arrested for threatening federal officers.

“The spike in violent threats is deeply concerning,” said the DHS spokesperson. “No law enforcement professional should face danger simply for carrying out their duty.”

In response, ICE has implemented new safety protocols, including restricted access to officer information, additional field briefings, and closer coordination with the Federal Protective Service and FBI.

The uptick in threats follows the administration’s decision to accelerate deportation operations nationwide, prioritizing undocumented individuals with criminal records and those who overstayed visas.

ICE has expanded its field operations across several states, with temporary detention facilities operating near full capacity. While DHS maintains that enforcement actions are consistent with federal law, the agency’s renewed intensity has drawn protests and legal challenges from immigrant rights groups.

The Department emphasized that threats against federal employees will be prosecuted under federal law. “Disagreement with policy must never cross the line into violence or intimidation,” DHS said in a statement.

The agency reiterated its commitment to conducting enforcement operations “safely, lawfully, and without political influence,” while continuing to protect its personnel from targeted violence.
