Israeli forces have reportedly opened fire on Gaza City’s Shuja’iyya neighborhood, marking what officials in Gaza describe as a clear breach of the ceasefire agreement brokered just days earlier. The incident occurred amid rising tensions following remarks from U.S. President Donald Trump, who warned that Israel could resume full-scale military operations if Hamas does not disarm.
Residents in the area reported heavy gunfire and shelling, forcing civilians to flee parts of the neighborhood. Local authorities said the attack violated the terms of the ongoing ceasefire that had been established to facilitate humanitarian operations and prisoner exchanges.
Trump’s Warning to Hamas
The renewed violence came shortly after President Trump issued a public warning to Hamas during a phone interview. When asked what would happen if Hamas refused to surrender its weapons, he replied, “Israel will be back on those streets at my word.”
Trump’s remarks have drawn global attention, as they come during a fragile truce that international mediators have been working to preserve.
Hamas Says It Has Complied with Ceasefire Terms
In a separate statement on Wednesday, the al-Qassam Brigades, the military wing of Hamas, announced that it had fully complied with the ceasefire agreement, including the handover of all living Israeli captives and the bodies of those who had died.
The group emphasized that its actions were consistent with the terms agreed upon under the international mediation framework. Hamas officials accused Israel of breaking the truce through unprovoked attacks, warning that repeated violations could jeopardize the fragile calm in Gaza.
Humanitarian organizations and regional mediators have expressed concern over the latest developments, urging all parties to uphold their commitments to the ceasefire.
As the situation remains tense, aid agencies warn that renewed conflict could worsen the humanitarian crisis in Gaza, where thousands of families continue to rely on emergency assistance.
