Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty has warned that Gaza has reached famine levels, calling on the European Union to take urgent action. Speaking on Monday in Slovenia, Abdelatty said the humanitarian situation in Gaza is worsening rapidly and pressed the EU to pressure Israel to lift aid restrictions and stop what he described as “flagrant crimes” in Gaza and the West Bank.

Call for Ceasefire and Immediate Relief

The Egyptian minister stressed the urgent need for an immediate ceasefire to prevent further escalation. He warned that military operations and the expansion of settlements could endanger the possibility of a future Palestinian state. According to him, only a halt to violence and free access to humanitarian aid can provide relief to civilians in Gaza who are now facing extreme hunger.

Abdelatty also criticized Israel for rejecting a ceasefire proposal that had been accepted by Hamas. He pointed out that continued refusal to engage in ceasefire agreements is prolonging civilian suffering and making regional stability harder to achieve. Egypt has been mediating between both sides and has repeatedly called for de-escalation.

Strengthening Egypt-EU Cooperation

During the same meeting, Abdelatty reaffirmed Cairo’s readiness to host the first Egypt-EU Summit. The summit is aimed at strengthening cooperation between Cairo and Brussels in political, economic, and security fields. He said Egypt sees its partnership with the EU as vital not only for regional stability but also for addressing global challenges such as migration and economic growth.

Meeting With European Leaders

The remarks were made during Abdelatty’s meeting with European Council President Antonio Costa on the sidelines of the Bled Strategic Forum in Slovenia. Both sides discussed ways to advance cooperation and how the EU can play a stronger role in the Middle East peace process. Abdelatty’s message was clear: without immediate international action, Gaza’s humanitarian crisis will worsen, with famine already threatening thousands of lives.
