Beijing: Several world leaders, including Russian President Vladimir Putin and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, will join Chinese President Xi Jinping at a major military parade in Beijing next week, China’s Foreign Ministry confirmed.

Leaders Expected at the Event

China said 26 foreign heads of state and government are expected to attend the parade. The guest list includes Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko, Iranian President Masoud Pezashkian, Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto, Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic, and South Korea’s National Assembly Speaker Woo Won-shik. Slovakia’s Prime Minister Robert Fico will be the only representative from an EU member state.

Purpose of the Parade

The large-scale parade, set to take place at Tiananmen Square, is being held as part of China’s commemoration of Victory Day. The event underscores Beijing’s efforts to strengthen ties with allied nations while showcasing its military advancements to both domestic and international audiences.

Military Display Planned

Chinese officials said the event will feature one of the country’s most elaborate military displays in recent years. Tens of thousands of troops are expected to march, accompanied by advanced equipment including fighter jets, missile defense systems, and hypersonic weapons. The demonstration is intended to highlight China’s growing defense capabilities and modernization of its armed forces.

While the parade will draw leaders from Asia, Eastern Europe, and the Middle East, China’s Foreign Ministry noted that no Western leaders will be present. Analysts say the attendance list reflects the global partnerships Beijing has cultivated outside the Western bloc, highlighting its influence across multiple regions.

As President Xi inspects troops and military hardware at Tiananmen Square, the parade will serve as both a show of strength and a platform for China’s diplomatic outreach. With leaders such as Putin and Kim Jong Un in attendance, the event is expected to draw significant international attention.
