Moscow: Russia’s Defense Ministry announced that its forces have captured the settlement of Nelipivka in eastern Ukraine, as fighting in the Donetsk region continues to intensify.
Nelipivka is situated near several contested zones in Donetsk, one of the main regions at the center of the war. While the settlement itself is small, its location is considered significant for controlling supply routes and expanding military positions in the eastern front.
The Donetsk region has been the scene of some of the heaviest clashes since the conflict began. Both Russian and Ukrainian forces have concentrated troops and resources in the area, making it one of the most fiercely contested parts of the war. Over the past months, battles for control of towns and villages in the region have resulted in widespread destruction and displacement of civilians.
Ukrainian officials have not yet issued a statement regarding the Russian claim of control over Nelipivka. In previous instances, Ukrainian authorities have acknowledged local withdrawals but also reported continued resistance in surrounding areas.
The announcement comes as the war nears its third year, with both sides locked in grinding battles across eastern and southern Ukraine. Russia has sought to consolidate gains in Donetsk and Luhansk, while Ukraine has relied on Western support to defend its territory and sustain military operations.
The reported capture of Nelipivka highlights the continued intensity of fighting in eastern Ukraine. While small in size, the settlement’s location adds to the strategic landscape of the Donetsk front, where battles remain critical to the course of the war.
