Damascus: Syria has strongly condemned Israeli airstrikes and raids in the southern province of Quneitra, calling on the United Nations to take urgent action to stop what it described as ongoing aggression.

Airstrikes in Quneitra

According to Syrian officials, Israeli warplanes carried out strikes in Quneitra, a region located near the border with the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights. The attacks reportedly caused casualties and damage to infrastructure in the area. Syrian authorities denounced the strikes as a violation of sovereignty and international law.

The Syrian Foreign Ministry issued a statement urging the United Nations Security Council to intervene and hold Israel accountable. Damascus argued that repeated attacks by Israel destabilize the region and threaten civilian lives. The appeal emphasized that silence from the international community would only encourage further escalation.

Israel has not issued an immediate public statement regarding the reported strikes. In previous cases, Israeli officials have maintained that their operations target Iranian-linked groups and weapons shipments in Syria, which they claim pose a security threat. However, Syria rejects this justification and frames the strikes as acts of aggression.

The strikes in Quneitra add to long-standing tensions between Syria and Israel. The Golan Heights, captured by Israel during the 1967 Six-Day War, remains a flashpoint. Syria continues to claim the territory, while Israel asserts control and has conducted frequent military operations in the region in recent years.

While the United Nations has yet to issue a formal response to Syria’s appeal, international observers warn that repeated airstrikes risk worsening instability across the region. Calls for restraint and adherence to international law have been made by several countries in past incidents.

Syria’s condemnation of the Quneitra airstrikes underscores the fragile state of regional security and the ongoing cycle of violence. With Damascus turning to the UN for intervention, the issue once again highlights the lack of resolution to long-standing disputes between Syria and Israel.
