Washington: U.S. Senator J.D. Vance said the United States retains significant tools to apply further pressure on Russia amid ongoing tensions, stressing that Washington is far from exhausting its leverage.

Strong Position Against Moscow

Speaking on the matter, Vance noted that while the U.S. has already deployed a wide range of sanctions and diplomatic measures, “there are still a lot of cards left to play.” He pointed out that America’s influence in financial systems, energy markets, and technology restrictions continues to give Washington leverage against Moscow.

According to him, this ensures that the U.S. is not yet at the end of its options. Instead, future decisions will depend on how the situation evolves and how Russia responds to existing measures.

Economic and Strategic Levers

Since the start of the Ukraine conflict, the U.S. and its allies have imposed sweeping sanctions targeting Russian banks, companies, and individuals. Restrictions have also been placed on advanced technology exports, particularly semiconductors and defense-related items.

Vance emphasized that the U.S. can still expand sanctions into untouched sectors and tighten enforcement to prevent circumvention. He highlighted that energy exports, global finance, and high-end technology remain areas where America can exert influence.

Balancing Pressure with Diplomacy

While stressing available options, Vance also acknowledged the need for careful balance. Excessive pressure, he noted, could push other nations to seek alternative systems outside U.S. influence. Therefore, Washington must apply its tools in a way that strengthens its strategic position without isolating partners or damaging its long-term leadership in the global order.

Broader Implications

The senator’s remarks come at a time when U.S. policy towards Russia continues to shape debates in Washington. With the Ukraine conflict ongoing and global security tensions rising, the statement signals that American leaders remain committed to keeping Moscow in check.

Vance’s message was clear: the United States is not out of options, and its ability to increase economic and political pressure on Russia remains strong.
