Iranian intelligence forces have dismantled a heavily armed terrorist cell in the southeastern province of Sistan and Baluchestan, near the border with Pakistan. The operation, carried out by the provincial General Directorate of Intelligence, resulted in the deaths of six militants and the capture of two others.

Terror Cell Intercepted

According to an official statement, the group had entered Iran through its eastern borders and was stopped before it could carry out its mission. Authorities described the interception as a significant security achievement in a region often affected by cross-border militant activity.

Weapons and Equipment Seized

The dismantled cell consisted of seven members, all non-Iranian nationals, equipped with advanced military-grade weapons. The cache included:

  • RPG-7 rocket launchers
  • US-made M4 and M16 rifles
  • Hand grenades and grenade launchers
  • Explosive vests and RPG anti-personnel rounds

Security forces also seized several vehicles, motorcycles, and advanced communication equipment that the group had been using to coordinate its planned operations.

The operation led to a prolonged armed clash between Iranian forces and the militants. Six of the terrorists were killed during the exchange, while two others were arrested alive. Three Iranian personnel, including two intelligence officers and one police officer, sustained injuries in the confrontation.

Regional Security Concerns

The southeastern province of Sistan and Baluchestan has long faced security challenges due to its proximity to the Pakistan border and the presence of smuggling and militant networks. Iranian officials highlighted the latest operation as proof of their determination to maintain control and prevent attacks inside the country.

The successful dismantling of the terror cell underscores Iran’s continuing security focus on border regions. By eliminating the group before it could carry out attacks, officials say they have prevented a major incident. The captured militants are expected to face investigation as authorities seek further details on the cell’s plans and external support.
