Wells Fargo has announced a $6.8 million investment to support revitalization and community development in South Dallas’ Forest District, marking one of the bank’s largest commitments to neighborhood renewal in the region. The funds will be distributed among seven nonprofit organizations working to strengthen small businesses, expand affordable housing, and improve workforce training opportunities.
The initiative primarily targets the 75215 ZIP code, an area historically affected by economic disinvestment. Partner nonprofits, including Forest Forward, Cornerstone Community Development Corporation, and St. Philip’s School & Community Center, will use the funding to advance long-term, community-driven projects.
One of the most high-profile efforts backed by the grant is the restoration of the historic Forest Theater, a South Dallas landmark being redeveloped into a cultural and educational hub. Once complete, it will host arts programs, community events, and entrepreneurship initiatives aimed at empowering residents.
Part of the funding will go toward helping small business owners in South Dallas gain access to capital, training, and business resources. The initiative also includes workforce development programs to help residents acquire new job skills, particularly in healthcare, construction, and digital technology, to strengthen local employment opportunities.
Community leaders praised the initiative as a turning point for South Dallas. They emphasized that the partnership between Wells Fargo and local nonprofits is not just a one-time donation but a strategic investment in long-term neighborhood stability.
“This investment gives South Dallas the tools to create generational wealth,” said a local nonprofit representative at the announcement event.
The announcement, attended by city officials and Wells Fargo executives, highlights a growing collaboration between the corporate and civic sectors in North Texas. It also aligns with Wells Fargo’s broader goal of promoting inclusive economic growth in underserved communities across the state.
