As the nation gets ready to celebrate Independence Day, Delhi has been placed under one of its tightest security covers in recent years. The Red Fort, where the Prime Minister will address the nation, is now the center of a massive security operation.
Massive Security Deployment
More than 10,000 Delhi Police officers, backed by paramilitary forces and SWAT teams, are on duty across the capital. Around 3,000 traffic personnel are managing roads leading to the Red Fort. Special commandos have been deployed in sensitive areas to respond quickly to any threat.
High-Tech Surveillance
Security agencies are using facial recognition cameras, automatic number plate recognition systems and under-vehicle scanners to keep a close eye on vehicles and visitors. Drone detection systems have been installed to prevent any aerial threats. Snipers have been positioned on rooftops around the Red Fort to cover the event area.
From August 2 to August 16, flying drones, paragliders, balloons and other aerial objects is strictly banned in Delhi’s airspace. This measure aims to protect both the skies and the ground during the celebrations.
Tight Checks at Stations and Metro
The New Delhi Railway Station has increased security with the Railway Protection Force carrying out 24-hour checks and using dog squads for baggage inspections. Delhi Metro stations are also on high alert, with the CISF conducting strict checks. Passengers are advised to travel early to avoid delays.
Border Areas Also Secured
Alongside Delhi, security has been strengthened along the Indo-Pak border and in districts like Amritsar and Gurdaspur. Anti-drone systems, night-vision equipment and additional patrols are in place to prevent any infiltration attempts.
What Residents Should Know
- Avoid carrying unnecessary items when travelling to public events
- Expect delays at railway stations and metro security gates
- Follow traffic advisories issued by police for the Independence Day period
Delhi security measures this year combine man power, advanced technology and strict rules to ensure a safe and smooth Independence Day celebration.
