New Delhi: The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has rolled out its much-awaited FASTag Annual Pass from August 15, 2025, giving private vehicle owners a faster, simpler, and potentially cheaper way to use toll plazas across the country.
Single Payment for a Whole Year
The pass costs Rs. 3,000 and is valid for either 200 toll trips or one year whichever comes first. For frequent highway travelers, this could translate into huge savings, especially with toll fees steadily rising in recent years.
For example, if you make an average of 4 to 5 highway trips a week, your total toll cost could easily cross Rs. 8,000 annually. This pass caps that expense at Rs. 3,000 while cutting down the hassle of topping up balances repeatedly.
Who Can Use It
The scheme is only for private cars, jeeps, and vans. Commercial vehicles, buses, and trucks are not eligible. The pass is linked to your existing FASTag, so you don’t need to get a new tag if you already have one.
Where It Works
The Annual Pass works at designated toll plazas on National Highways and National Expressways. It will not be accepted on state highways, city roads, or local toll points. Before starting a trip, users are advised to check the NHAI list of applicable toll locations.
Easy Activation
You can activate the pass through the Rajmarg Yatra app or via the NHAI and MoRTH official websites. Once paid, the pass is usually active within two hours. In rare cases, activation may take up to 24 hours.
Documents required include:
- Vehicle Registration Certificate (RC)
- A passport-size photo
- KYC documents
Benefits Beyond Cost
Apart from savings, the pass speeds up toll movement for regular highway commuters. Since the trips are pre-paid, you avoid last-minute top-ups at toll booths, reducing delays during peak hours.
The pass is non-transferable and tied to a single registered vehicle. Once you hit the 200-trip limit or the one-year mark, it automatically reverts to your regular FASTag account, and you will need to purchase a new pass for continued benefits.
