Kannada superstar Darshan Thoogudeepa is back in police custody after the Supreme Court cancelled the bail granted to him in the Renukaswamy murder case. The court also ordered the arrest of actress Pavithra Gowda and three others linked to the crime.
Arrest After Bail Cancellation
Police detained Darshan from his wife Vijayalakshmi’s home in Hosakerehalli, Bengaluru, shortly after the Supreme Court verdict. Pavithra Gowda, identified as a prime accused, was also arrested, along with Pradoosh S. Rao, Lakshman M., and Nagaraju R. Officers acted quickly to prevent any chance of escape.
Why the Supreme Court Stepped In
A bench of Justices J. B. Pardiwala and R. Mahadevan found serious flaws in the Karnataka High Court earlier decision to grant bail. The court said that proper procedure was not followed and that there was a real risk of witness intimidation. The judges made it clear that no one is above the law, not even celebrities, and warned against giving VIP treatment to the accused in custody.
The Case Behind the Headlines
The case involves the kidnapping and killing of 33-year-old Renukaswamy, a fan who allegedly sent offensive messages to Pavithra Gowda. Investigators say he was lured by a fan club member to a shed, where he was brutally assaulted and killed. His body was later found in a drain in Bengaluru’s Sumanahalli area.
Public Response and Legal Importance
The decision has drawn strong reactions. Actress Divya Spandana welcomed the ruling, calling it a reminder that “all are equal before the law.” The verdict is also being seen as a warning to those who try to use fame or influence to bend legal outcomes.
