Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has urged China to use its influence over Russia to help bring an end to the war in Ukraine. Speaking in strong terms, Zelensky said Moscow has tied itself closely to Beijing, both as a raw material supplier and as a political ally. He stressed that the world must find ways to encourage China to pursue a path toward peace.
Zelensky underlined that persuading China requires a united effort from the United States, Europe, and the Group of Seven (G7). According to him, the strength and consistency of these blocs will determine whether Beijing chooses to play a constructive role in resolving the conflict.
A central point in Zelensky’s remarks was the need to maintain Russia’s isolation on the global stage. He said sanctions, tariffs, and the confiscation of Russian assets are vital tools that must remain in place to weaken Moscow’s ability to sustain its war effort. “One key issue is the isolation of Russia; it must be preserved,” Zelensky stated.
The Ukrainian president also broadened his message beyond politics, insisting that principles should guide international relations in culture and sports as well. He criticized the idea that money or economic power can override values, warning that Russian President Vladimir Putin’s belief in such an approach must not be allowed to succeed.
Zelensky framed the issue as a choice for China to align with efforts for peace or remain tied to Russia’s war strategy. By putting the focus on Beijing, he highlighted China’s position as a decisive player whose actions could shape the course of the conflict.
His remarks reflect Ukraine’s continued push for stronger global unity and increased pressure on Russia, as the war shows no sign of ending.
