Israeli forces escalated their military activity in southern Syria on Friday, carrying out new raids and maneuvers across several regions. According to Syrian state media, Israeli warplanes were seen flying over the provinces of Quneitra and Daraa, while armored vehicles entered the village of Al-Samadaniyya Al-Sharqiya. Reports confirm that at least one home in the area was raided during the operation.

The latest development comes a day after Israeli forces raided Ruwaihinih village, where two Syrians were detained. Earlier this week, Israeli airstrikes targeted Al-Kiswah in the Damascus countryside, resulting in the deaths of Syrian soldiers. These actions form part of a broader pattern of intensified military pressure in the southern region, raising tensions along the border.

Violations of Syrian Sovereignty

Syria has accused Israel of repeatedly breaching its sovereignty, particularly since the weakening of Bashar al-Assad’s regime during the civil war. Israeli forces have expanded their control over the occupied Golan Heights, a strategic territory seized from Syria in 1967. Officials in Damascus argue that Israel is now pushing deeper into the demilitarized buffer zone established under the 1974 disengagement agreement, which was meant to prevent direct confrontation between the two countries.

Observers note that the recurring strikes and raids risk fueling instability not only within southern Syria but across the wider region. The Golan Heights remains a critical flashpoint, with Israel citing security concerns related to Iranian-backed groups operating in Syria, while Syria maintains that Israel’s presence and actions violate international law.

The recent escalation underscores the fragile nature of the decades-old disengagement agreement. With frequent airstrikes, ground incursions, and detentions, the Syrian government has repeatedly called on the United Nations to intervene and halt what it describes as continuous violations of its territorial integrity.

As Israeli military operations intensify, the southern Syrian front is becoming a renewed hotspot in the long-standing conflict. The cycle of raids and counterclaims highlights the persistent volatility of the Israel-Syria relationship, where disputes over sovereignty, security, and territory remain unresolved nearly five decades after the original disengagement accord.
