Hospitals in Gaza are struggling to cope with an overwhelming number of patients as the daily occupancy rate has reached nearly 300 percent. Medical staff warn that the facilities are unable to handle the constant stream of injured arriving each day.

Shortage of Surgeons and Operating Rooms

Bassam Zaquot, director of the Medical Relief Society in Gaza, said that the shortage of surgeons and operating rooms has left doctors unable to provide timely treatment to many patients. “The operating rooms and the number of surgeons are far fewer than the number of injuries arriving,” he explained.

Medical teams are working around the clock, often forced to perform emergency operations in makeshift conditions. With limited resources, many patients are being treated on the floors of overcrowded wards or in hallways.

Rising Casualties Strain System

The rising number of injuries has pushed hospitals to the brink, with healthcare workers describing the situation as one of the worst in recent memory. Beds are no longer available, forcing medical staff to use any available space to care for the wounded. The shortage of supplies, including anesthesia and surgical equipment, has further complicated efforts to save lives.

Humanitarian Crisis Deepens

International organizations have warned that Gaza’s healthcare system is close to collapse. The high occupancy rates and shortages of medical staff highlight the urgent need for humanitarian support. Aid groups are calling for immediate delivery of medical supplies, fuel, and equipment to keep hospitals functioning.

Zaquot and other health officials have appealed to the international community to intervene and provide emergency aid. They stressed that without immediate support, thousands of lives remain at risk due to the lack of adequate care.

With hospitals stretched far beyond their capacity and resources running out, the healthcare crisis in Gaza continues to escalate. Doctors and relief organizations warn that without urgent assistance, the situation will worsen further, leaving countless patients without access to life-saving treatment.
