Venezuelan Defense Minister Vladimir Padrino López has announced the start of “Caribe Soberano 200”, a three-day military drill designed to test the nation’s readiness against what officials described as “growing threats from the United States.” The exercise is being conducted on La Orchila Island, a strategically located island in the Caribbean.

According to Padrino, the maneuvers involve more than 2,500 personnel, supported by 12 warships, 22 aircraft, 20 patrol boats, and field artillery units. The operations are being overseen by the Bolivarian National Armed Forces’ command center and are intended to assess coordination across different branches of the military.

“These exercises will test our readiness in the face of conflict scenarios and strengthen the unity of our people, the armed forces, and the political leadership,” Padrino stated. He added that the drills are critical for maintaining preparedness in light of external security challenges.

The training program covers a wide range of military activities, including armed drone operations, reconnaissance flights, submarine maneuvers, and surveillance missions. Special forces are also conducting infiltration exercises across air, naval, and ground domains.

The drills extend beyond traditional combat training. They include electronic warfare techniques such as communications interception and jamming, as well as coastal live-fire exercises. Amphibious landings, air-defense maneuvers, paratrooper jumps, and tactical air support are also part of the training program, reflecting a comprehensive defense strategy.

The “Caribe Soberano 200” exercise highlights Venezuela’s effort to showcase military strength at a time of heightened political tension. While officials did not provide further details on future drills, the scope of this operation underscores the government’s focus on integrating advanced technologies and combined-force tactics into its defense planning.

By staging large-scale exercises on La Orchila Island, Venezuela aims to demonstrate its capacity to respond to external threats while reinforcing unity between the armed forces and the civilian leadership.
