United Nations: UNRWA Commissioner-General Philippe Lazzarini has issued a strong appeal for an immediate end to Israel’s military operations in Gaza, describing the situation as catastrophic and warning that no one in the territory is safe.
“Nowhere and No One in Gaza is Safe”
In a statement shared on social media, Lazzarini wrote that nearly 700 days into the conflict, civilians in Gaza continue to be killed and injured as Israeli military operations intensify. He emphasized that hospitals, schools, shelters, and homes are being bombed daily, leaving the population in constant fear and danger.
Health Workers and Journalists Targeted
The Commissioner-General highlighted the heavy toll on humanitarian workers, noting that health staff, journalists, and aid workers have been killed at a scale not seen in any other recent conflict. “As if all of this is not enough, hunger is threatening everyone in Gaza with a slow and silent death, or in a death while desperately seeking food,” Lazzarini warned.
Condemnation of Ongoing Attacks
Lazzarini condemned what he described as crimes committed with impunity. He criticized the framing of atrocities as “mishaps” while famine and suffering continue to spread unchecked. His statement drew attention to the denial of humanitarian access and the worsening famine conditions faced by civilians across the strip.
In his concluding remarks, Lazzarini declared that nothing justifies the scale of destruction and loss of life in Gaza. “Outrage is not enough. It’s time for action, courage, and political will to end this hell on earth,” he stated. His call underscores the urgency of international intervention to halt the violence and provide relief to Gaza’s population.
The UNRWA chief’s statement adds to the growing international alarm over the humanitarian disaster in Gaza. With rising civilian deaths, collapsing infrastructure, and widespread hunger, the call for an immediate ceasefire reflects the pressing need to protect lives and restore access to basic human needs.
