In a major Independence Day announcement, Prime Minister Narendra Modi unveiled the Pradhan Mantri Viksit Bharat Rozgar Yojana (PM-VBRY), a Rs 1lakh crore programme aimed at creating jobs and boosting opportunities for India’s youth.
Financial Support for New Workers
Under the scheme, first-time employees in the private sector will receive Rs 15,000 as a direct benefit. The amount will be given in two parts – the first after six months of continuous employment and the second after completing one year. Beneficiaries will also need to complete a basic financial literacy course to qualify for the second installment.
Target to Create 3.5 Crore Jobs
The government expects the scheme to generate 3.5 crore jobs over the next two years, with special focus on hiring 1.92 crore first-time job seekers. The plan covers multiple sectors, with extra incentives for manufacturing to boost industrial growth.
Benefits for Employers
Private companies hiring additional workers will receive up to Rs 3,000 per month per new employee who stays for at least six months. In manufacturing, incentives could continue for up to four years, making it an attractive move for employers to expand their workforce.
A Step Towards ‘Viksit Bharat’
PM Modi emphasised that this is not just a job scheme, but part of a larger mission to make India a developed nation by creating a stronger, formal workforce. “This is an opportunity to give our youth the strength to start their professional journey with confidence,” he said.
