New Delhi: Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal said that the impact of India’s latest Goods and Services Tax (GST) reforms will soon be visible across industries, while also dismissing US tariffs as “unilateral actions” that New Delhi is prepared to address.

GST Reforms to Boost Industry

Speaking at an industry gathering, Goyal emphasized that recent GST reforms were designed to simplify compliance, reduce tax burden, and support business growth. He assured industry bodies that the positive results would be felt in the near term, providing relief to sectors impacted by global market uncertainties.

“These reforms are not only structural but also practical, ensuring that businesses spend less time on paperwork and more on growth,” Goyal said.

Response to US Tariffs

Addressing concerns over ongoing tariff measures imposed by the United States on Indian exports, Goyal described them as “unilateral actions” that India would continue to engage on diplomatically.

He noted that while tariffs create short-term challenges for exporters, India remains committed to finding balanced trade solutions. The Minister pointed out that India has been diversifying its trade partnerships to reduce dependence on any single market.

Exploring New Trade Opportunities

Goyal also hinted at active discussions with several partner nations, including Oman and other regions in the Middle East, for future trade agreements. He underlined that India’s focus remains on creating win-win frameworks that expand export markets while supporting domestic producers.

By pursuing fresh trade opportunities, India aims to cushion the impact of tariff barriers while expanding its global footprint in key sectors such as textiles, pharmaceuticals, and engineering goods.
