Pakistani warplanes conducted targeted airstrikes in Kabul, Afghanistan, on Wednesday, reportedly hitting a vehicle near the Abdul Haq intersection. According to sources cited by Al Mayadeen, the strike resulted in multiple casualties.

Elimination of TTP Leader

The vehicle targeted in the strike was reportedly carrying Noor Wali Mehsud, the leader of Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP). Sources familiar with the operation stated that Mehsud was inside the vehicle at the time and was killed in the attack. While Afghan authorities have not yet issued an official statement, the information has drawn significant regional attention due to Mehsud’s role in militant activities across Pakistan’s tribal areas.

Background on Noor Wali Mehsud

Noor Wali Mehsud took over the leadership of the TTP after the death of Mullah Fazlullah in 2018. Under his leadership, the group expanded its operations, targeting Pakistani security forces and civilians. Mehsud had been on Pakistan’s most-wanted list and was designated as a global terrorist by the United Nations and the United States in 2020.

Following the reports of the airstrike, Pakistan’s military announced that a press conference will be held on Thursday to address the operation in Kabul. The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the media wing of the Pakistan Army, is expected to share further details regarding the airstrikes and the objectives of the mission.

The incident marks a significant moment in Pakistan’s counterterrorism campaign, as the TTP has long been a source of tension between Islamabad and Kabul. Pakistan has repeatedly urged Afghan authorities to act against TTP militants believed to be operating from Afghan territory.

As of now, official verification from both Pakistani and Afghan sides is awaited. However, if confirmed, the death of Noor Wali Mehsud could signal a major blow to TTP’s leadership and its operations in the region.
