As New York City heads into Election Day on November 4, the three leading mayoral candidates Zohran Mamdani (Democrat), Andrew Cuomo (Independent), and Curtis Sliwa (Republican), are making their final appeals to voters in what has become one of the city’s most competitive races in years.

More than 735,000 residents have already cast ballots during early voting, setting a record for a mayoral election. The high participation reflects growing public interest in key issues such as safety, housing, affordability, and governance.

Democratic candidate Zohran Mamdani, who has built his campaign on a platform of affordability, housing reform, and progressive governance, spent his final campaign day marching across the Brooklyn Bridge with supporters. He called the election “a people’s movement for a fairer city.”

Mamdani’s campaign has focused heavily on addressing New York’s rising housing costs and expanding access to public services, drawing strong support from younger and working-class voters.

Former Governor Andrew Cuomo, running as an independent, has positioned himself as a centrist alternative to Mamdani. His campaign has focused on leadership experience, infrastructure, and restoring trust in city institutions.

Cuomo’s outreach in the final stretch has centered on attracting both moderate Democrats and disillusioned Republican voters, with his message of “stability and results over ideology.”

Republican candidate Curtis Sliwa, founder of the Guardian Angels, has focused his campaign on public safety and law enforcement. He has spent recent days riding subways and visiting neighborhoods, promising to “make New York safe again.”

The race has drawn national attention, with former President Donald Trump endorsing Cuomo over Mamdani. Analysts say the outcome could shape the political direction of America’s largest city and serve as an early indicator of voter sentiment ahead of the 2026 national elections.

Polls open Tuesday morning across all five boroughs.
