New York City Assemblyman Zohran Mamdani has widened his lead over former Governor Andrew Cuomo in the latest round of mayoral polls, signaling strong voter momentum for the progressive candidate as the city moves closer to Election Day.

According to recent surveys of likely voters, Mamdani now holds a double-digit advantage over Cuomo, with his support particularly strong among younger and working-class residents. The polling suggests that Mamdani’s grassroots approach and message on affordability and housing have struck a chord with New Yorkers seeking a change in city leadership.

Among voters under the age of 50, Mamdani’s lead is even more pronounced, approaching 30 percentage points in some polls. His campaign, built on themes of equity, affordable living, and community reform, has attracted widespread attention from progressive groups and youth organizations.

In contrast, Cuomo continues to find his strongest backing among older and more traditional Democratic voters, though overall enthusiasm for his return to public office remains muted. Political analysts note that his challenge lies in reconnecting with a base that has shifted politically since his tenure as governor.

Poll data shows that the cost of living remains the dominant issue for New Yorkers. Nearly half of respondents (49%) said they believe Mamdani is better equipped to handle affordability and housing pressures, compared with 24% who favored Cuomo on those issues.

Crime, public transportation, and education ranked next on the list of voter concerns. Mamdani’s consistent messaging on economic justice and rent stability appears to have resonated most strongly in boroughs such as Queens, Brooklyn, and the Bronx.

With just weeks to go before voting begins, Mamdani’s campaign is positioning itself as a grassroots movement focused on policy-driven governance. Cuomo’s team, meanwhile, faces growing pressure to close the polling gap as the race heads into its final stretch.
