Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro announced on Monday that his government has issued a warning to Washington about a potential attack on the US Embassy in Caracas. Maduro claimed that Venezuelan intelligence had uncovered information about a possible “false flag operation” being planned by extremist groups within the local Venezuelan opposition.

According to the president, the plot involved plans to plant explosives near the embassy premises, which could then be used to frame the Venezuelan government and escalate tensions with the United States.

Official Communication with Washington

Maduro stated that his administration had formally communicated the intelligence findings to US authorities through diplomatic channels. “We have alerted the United States government about extremist sectors of the Venezuelan right preparing a false flag operation against the US Embassy,” he said during a national broadcast.

He added that Venezuela remains committed to protecting all diplomatic missions within its borders and called on the US to take the warning seriously to prevent any potential security breach.

Political Context and Recent Developments

Relations between Venezuela and the United States have been tense for years, marked by sanctions, political disagreements, and limited diplomatic presence. While the US Embassy in Caracas reduced its operations in previous years, it continues to maintain a minimal security and administrative staff.

The warning comes at a time when Venezuela is navigating internal political divisions ahead of upcoming regional elections. Maduro has often accused opposition factions of attempting to destabilize the country with the backing of foreign actors.

Assurance of Diplomatic Safety

Venezuelan officials have reiterated their commitment to safeguarding all foreign embassies in accordance with international law. The Ministry of Interior and Justice has reportedly increased security measures around the US Embassy compound in Caracas following the alert.

The US State Department has not yet issued a public response regarding the warning. Both governments continue to maintain limited but active communication channels through intermediaries.
