France has expressed a strong interest in India’s long-range weapon systems after observing their performance during Operation Sindoor, a recent military exercise showcasing India’s indigenous defence technology. The visit by the French delegation, led by French Army Chief General Pierre Schill, has strengthened defence cooperation between the two countries.
During his visit, General Schill commended the Indian Army’s growing self-reliance in advanced weapon systems and the operational efficiency demonstrated during the joint exercises. He also interacted with Indian defence officials to discuss areas of mutual collaboration in technology, manufacturing, and training.
Spotlight on Pinaka Rocket System
One of the key highlights of the visit was the Pinaka multi-barrel rocket launcher system, which drew particular attention from the French side. Developed by India’s Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) and manufactured domestically, the Pinaka system has become a symbol of India’s indigenous defence capabilities.
French officials reportedly showed keen interest in understanding the system’s performance, range, and battlefield adaptability, which were demonstrated during the Operation Sindoor exercises.
India and France have shared a long-standing defence partnership, built on technology sharing, joint manufacturing, and maritime cooperation. This latest engagement is expected to expand further collaboration in the areas of long-range artillery, missile systems, and air defence technologies.
The two nations already cooperate closely on several strategic fronts, including the Rafale fighter jet program, naval operations in the Indo-Pacific, and intelligence sharing on counterterrorism. The growing military relationship reflects both countries’ intent to promote a free and secure Indo-Pacific region.
Defence officials from both countries have indicated that upcoming talks will explore co-development opportunities and deeper integration between Indian and French defence industries.
The visit by General Schill marks another milestone in Indo-French defence ties, underscoring a shared commitment to advanced technology collaboration and a strengthened global strategic partnership.
