Gaza City: World Food Programme (WFP) chief Cindy McCain has described the extreme challenges humanitarian agencies face in delivering aid to Gaza, citing instances where Israeli forces have blocked convoys and pointed weapons at aid workers.
Speaking about the dire situation, McCain said that “It’s very difficult when they’re pointing guns at us or tanks. There’s been aid stoppage. We can’t get in.” Her comments highlighted the worsening conditions in Gaza, where civilians are in urgent need of food, medicine, and shelter.
According to WFP, trucks carrying essential supplies have been unable to reach many areas due to ongoing military restrictions and insecurity. Aid deliveries have slowed to a near halt, leaving thousands of families dependent on limited local resources. With Gaza’s infrastructure heavily damaged, the inability to move food and relief goods is worsening hunger and malnutrition.
Humanitarian Crisis Escalates
The Gaza Strip, already facing severe shortages, is now on the brink of deeper crisis. International agencies report that hospitals are running low on medicines, water systems are collapsing, and food stocks are almost exhausted. Children, the elderly, and displaced families are among the hardest hit.
WFP and other humanitarian groups have repeatedly appealed for safe corridors to deliver aid. However, the latest reports suggest that repeated interruptions and armed standoffs are making access nearly impossible.
McCain’s remarks have amplified international concerns. Aid organizations and global leaders are urging Israel to allow safe and consistent access for humanitarian deliveries, stressing that civilians should not be trapped without relief in conflict zones.
The United Nations has warned that without immediate access, the humanitarian crisis in Gaza will deteriorate further, risking famine conditions in some areas.
For now, WFP and its partners remain on standby with supplies but stress that security guarantees are critical before operations can resume at scale. As McCain emphasized, humanitarian workers are ready to deliver aid, but they cannot operate under armed threat.
