Actor and director Justin Baldoni has made it clear that his legal dispute with Blake Lively is not finished, even though his $400 million countersuit was recently dismissed in court. The two have been involved in a high-profile legal battle that began after Lively accused Baldoni of misconduct during the production of their film It Ends With Us.
Earlier this week, U.S. District Judge Lewis Liman dismissed Baldoni’s countersuit after his legal team chose not to revise and resubmit their claims by the court-ordered deadline. However, Baldoni’s lawyer, Bryan Freedman, said the dismissal was a strategic decision, not an admission of defeat. He explained that by not amending the complaint, Baldoni preserves his right to appeal the ruling in a higher court later on.
Freedman emphasized that the legal team is still actively preparing for the ongoing case involving Lively’s original allegations of harassment and retaliation. These claims remain in effect, and the court is expected to move forward toward a trial scheduled for March 2026. The attorney said the public should not assume the matter is resolved just because one part of the case was dismissed.
Meanwhile, Lively’s legal team has asked the court for permission to seek legal fees, a move supported by the judge. Her representatives argue that Baldoni’s now-dismissed countersuit was baseless and designed to damage her credibility.
The legal conflict has drawn wide attention in Hollywood due to the status of all parties involved. Baldoni and Lively co-starred in the film adaptation of the bestselling novel It Ends With Us, which had already faced delays and strong fan reactions during its development.
As the case continues, both actors reputations and professional futures may be influenced by what unfolds. Industry observers note that the trial will likely raise broader discussions about workplace behavior, power dynamics, and how the entertainment industry handles misconduct claims and counter-accusations.
For now, both sides appear prepared to keep fighting and the story is far from over.
