Actor Millie Bobby Brown is speaking out against ongoing media commentary on her body and appearance, calling for the press to shift its focus to her work rather than dissecting her looks. The Stranger Things star, now 21, shared a direct message urging journalists and entertainment outlets to “stop picking apart” her appearance in headlines and online discussions.
Brown, who began her acting career at just 10 years old, said she has spent more than a decade growing up under public scrutiny. She acknowledged that while being in the spotlight naturally invites attention, the focus on her physical appearance has crossed into what she described as “unhealthy and disturbing territory.”
In her statement, Brown said the criticism often comes from adults who should know better, calling it “disappointing” that even some women in the media have contributed to the commentary. She added that many of the viral headlines about her have analyzed changes in her face, body shape, clothing, and style, all of which she views as normal parts of maturing.
“I’m 21. I am allowed to grow up,” she emphasized, urging the public to understand that aging and evolving is a normal human experiences, particularly for someone who entered the industry as a child. She said the expectation that she remain frozen in her early teen identity is unrealistic and unfair.
Brown also made clear that she respects journalism and supports thoughtful coverage of the entertainment industry. However, she asked writers to consider the real-world effects of their words, especially on young women who are still defining their identities.
Her comments have reignited a broader conversation about how the media treats young female celebrities, particularly those who gain fame before adulthood. Critics of celebrity culture say the scrutiny encourages body shaming, insecurity, and unrealistic beauty expectations.
By speaking up, Brown hopes to shift the tone of public conversation toward respect, growth, and individuality and to remind the world that growing older is not something to apologize for.
